The Serre Financial Story
Dennis Serre - May 26, 2016

Welcome to our new blog.
Our Serreous Money manifesto is just this — to share our insights on taking advantage of big-picture, customized tax strategy. To start, here’s a little background on how Serre Financial became one of Canada’s leading tax strategy firms.
Lisa and my passion for tax strategy dates back decades to our first meeting in basic training at H&R block. Even then, as industry newbies, we recognized something others in this business missed. Our clients amounted to more than line items on a ledger sheet. They had families and jobs, education dreams for their kids and retirement strategies. In short, they had lives. This big-picture understanding, we knew, was something we could build on.
I decided to dig deeper, and learn the business from the inside out. I joined what was in 1990 Revenue Canada (now Canada Revenue Agency), focusing on pension reform, RSPs and trusts. My goal: to learn as much as possible about income tax act. I did.
From CRA, I went on to consult for various mutual fund companies, implementing various products. I worked too as a compliance officer and tax manager. Time and again, trusted advisors would ask me for tax planning advice for professional clients. With the demand overwhelming, I finally had Serre Financial turned our entire focus to tax planning.
Today, we continue to build on our tax planning knowledge and expertise. I’m proud that my work for business owners and financial industry professionals has earned me recognition as one of the top tax authorities in the country.
Over the past decade, our Serre Financial team has grown to include many talented tax experts, crafting superior solutions for each of the several thousand SF clients.
Our work universally, however, is guided by one basic principle: Finding value with a net benefit to the end client. In short, the Serre Financial business model works like this — if you win, if your clients win, SF wins. It’s our promise. And check out our next post about… to being learning how we do this.
